The Memphis Grizzlies have finally decided to cut their losses on the whole Chandler Parsons situation. However, based on several reports that have emerged since the parting of ways was announced on Monday, it appears that there is more to this story than what's on the surface.

In his recent write-up for ESPN, Adrian Wojnarowski described how Parsons had actually already been cleared to play nearly three weeks ago. The reason why he was held out of the rotation remains to be the biggest mystery of this narrative thus far.

Parsons' troublesome left knee has been medically cleared for him to return to play since Dec. 21. Based on discussions with the Memphis medical staff, Parsons expected to return for a road game in Sacramento that day.

Despite being given the green light by the team physios, the Grizzlies opted not to play Chandler Parsons. According to Woj, the oft-injured 30-year-old was actually looking sharp of late, which makes the timing of the decision to cut him even more questionable.

He has instead been scrimmaging 5-on-5 with the team in recent weeks to prove his readiness, and he made a positive impression on the coaching staff and teammates with his ability to still contribute offensively, sources said.

The last time Parsons suited up for the Grizzlies was on Oct 22 — the third game of the season — when he played six minutes against the Utah Jazz. As it turns out, this was the last time we will ever see the former NBA All-Rookie team member in a Grizzlies uniform, as both parties are now reportedly looking for a deal that will allow Parsons to finally move on from his horrendous time in Memphis.
