Marc Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies have had a tumultuous season, to say the least.
Their point guard is injured and yet to return, their head coach was fired and they went through an 11-game losing streak.
But despite all of that darkness, Gasol is still willing to stick with the team and doesn't want out, per Zach Lowe of ESPN.
Article Continues Below“I have a responsibility to this city,” Gasol says. “I'm not gonna quit, no matter what.”
What if Memphis fell 30 games under .500? Gasol shakes his head. “I would want to see how we got there — what the process is,” Gasol says. “But as long as [owner] Robert [Pera] wants me here, my teammates want me here, they think I'm part of the solution — and not part of the problem — that's all I need.”
If Gasol were to ask for a trade, it's basically over for the Grizzlies. The fact that he's not in that place yet is good news for the franchise.
But we've seen this movie before. Star players usually don't ask for trades at the very first sign of hardship. It takes time for that to happen.
This is really only the first time Gasol has shown any type of deep frustration while playing with the Grizzlies. So it makes sense that he's not heading for greener pastures yet.
But if things don't turn around soon, Gasol could change his mind.
