The Cleveland Guardians have not been making much noise in free agency. The only notable headlines were when they officially became the Guardians, ditching the name “Indians” which they used for over 100 years.

In terms of their roster, the only notable moves the Guardians made were keeping their key young players around. They tendered the contracts of their seven arbitration-eligible players. The group includes top pitchers Shane Bieber and Cal Quantrill, designated hitter Franmil Reyes, shortstop Amed Rosario and more. None of the seven players have agreed to a salary for the 2022 season.

Quantrill and Bieber posted the second- and third-lowest ERAs on the team last season, trailing only closing pitcher Emmanuel Chase. Bieber, a Cy Young Award winner and two-time All-Star, is one of the Guardians' most important players. Keeping him was a no-brainer and retaining Quantrill makes sense, too.

Reyes was one of the most important bats on the team last season. He posted an OPS of .846 and smacked 30 home runs, both of which are the second-most on the team behind only All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez. Rosario, catcher Austin Hedges and right fielder Josh Naylor were all starters last year and outfielder Bradley Zimmer was one of the key bench players.

Cleveland will begin its first season as the Guardians following an 80-82 season.
