To say that the Atlanta Hawks beat the Sacramento Kings Wednesday night would be to describe Zach Randolph as a bit stocky. Both are big understatements.

See, the Hawks took Randolph and the Kings to the woodshed, carving out a 126-80 victory. The 48-point winning margin is the largest in the franchise’s history, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

The Hawks began to pull away from Sacramento in the second quarter in which they dropped 40 points on the Kings as against their opponents’ 19-point output in the period. The beatdown continued well into the second half, where Atlanta outscored the Kings, 62-45.

Center Dewayne Dedmon spearheaded the Hawks, dominating the Kings’ frontline by scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to go with two steals and two blocks. Dennis Schroder, on the other hand, had 21 points and eight assists.

The Hawks seemed to have mind control over Sacramento, especially on offense. Atlanta shot 60 percent from the field and drained 16 of their 32 attempts from beyond the arc. Inside, the Hawks bludgeoned Sacramento’s interior defense for 52 points in the paint.

Atlanta’s win is also a testament to the coaching acumen of Mike Budenholzer, who, despite not having the ideal pieces on his team still manages to make the Hawks competitive every game.
