Minutes after acquiring Shelvin Mack from the Memphis Grizzlies, the Atlanta Hawks are reportedly waiving him.

The details of what the Grizzlies will receive for letting Mack go hasn't been released yet, but the eight year veteran will now become a free agent, eligible to sign with a playoff contender for the remainder of the season.

The Hawks are clearly rebuilding, and would want the large chunk of playing time to go to guys like Trae Young and Kevin Huerter in order for them to further assess the team's future with the duo leading the way. Mack will take away significant amount of minutes of Atlanta kept him.

Mack is averaging 7.9 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.9 rebounds while shooting 41 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc this season.

There are still no reports as to whether another team has shown interest in signing Mack after being waived, but expect that to change in the near future. Playoff teams would like to have someone like him, who can sink 3-pointers on a consistent basis.

It is also possible that he could end up in a young, rebuilding team to serve as a veteran leader in the locker room, at least for the remainder of the season.
