Atlanta Hawks rookie forward John Collins is getting closer to returning to the court. According to Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Collins is targeting the Hawks’ meeting against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday for his return.

But if he still can’t go by Tuesday, then his chances of coming back for Thursday’s game against the Detroit Pistons will be “really good.”

Collins has missed the Hawks’ last five games due to a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder which he suffered in their previous meeting against the Cavs on Nov. 30.

The No. 19 pick in this year’s draft, Collins is averaging 11.5 points on 59 percent shooting with 7.1 rebounds in 23 minutes for the Hawks this season. Collins has been one of the best offensive rebounders in the league this season and currently ranks in the top five in offensive rebounding percentage.

Collins has played primarily off the bench for head coach Mike Budenholzer during his rookie season, but he had started four games in a row prior to injuring his shoulder against the Cavs.

But with Ersan Ilyasova playing well following back-to-back 20-point games against the Orlando Magic and the New York Knicks, Collins may have to return to his bench role once he returns to the Hawks lineup.
