Rookie Trae Young has yet to play his first official NBA regular-season game, but his perspective in restoring the culture in the organization has been on his mind coming into this 2018-19 season.

The Atlanta Hawks have effectively cleared his path to take the keys to the point guard position, trading away the estranged Dennis Schroder and allowing Young to flourish as the franchise's next star.

“It’s all about winning,” Young said Friday at an NBPA camp appearance at Basketball City, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic. “It’s all about getting the culture back to what it was when Al Horford was there, Jeff Teague and they were in the Eastern Conference finals and winning 60 games. That’s my goal. I want to get back to winning, and I know the city of Atlanta wants that, and it’s our job to bring it back.”

It wasn't long ago that former coach Mike Budenholzer was leading the Eastern Conference during the regular season, even above the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers.

If Young can establish himself as the point guard of the future, it would give the Hawks a much-needed building block to take this team into prominence. Even if cracking the playoff is still wishful thinking, this attitude can prove fruitful and rub off on the rest of his young teammates — establishing his leadership from the onset.

Atlanta also added point guard Jeremy Lin, a veteran who can provide much-needed perspective into how to handle his career moving forward, showing him the ropes of what it takes to play the position.
