Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young has heard the tireless comparisons between him and draftmate Luka Doncic throughout the bulk of his first two years in the league. The Hawks star point guard is now more than willing to embrace those comparisons, resigned to hear about them for the rest of his NBA career.
“To be honest with you, it's annoying, but its gonna be that way till we're both done playing,” Young told Bleacher Report's Taylor Rooks on Take It There. “Might as well just embrace it.”
Despite playing very different styles, Young won't be able to unlink what the Hawks did with their third overall pick, choosing to trade it to the Dallas Mavericks on draft night. The Mavs would turn that pick into Doncic, who has now developed into an MVP candidate in less than two years.
While Young has done well for himself, the Hawks have yet to rise to playoff expectations — though that is something that could come with time and additional front office moves.
The Oklahoma native perhaps gets it even worst than those who were picked ahead of Doncic — Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton at No. 1 and Sacramento Kings forward Marvin Bagley at No. 2. That is due to the nature of the trade, as many try to evaluate who got the better of the deal.
As it is now, Doncic has a leg up in that comparison, but the two All-Stars still have many more seasons to make a case for who is the best out of that draft class, as the ink in the opening chapters of that book is still rather fresh.
