The Miami Heat made a Cinderella Run to the NBA Finals in the 2020 Orlando bubble, only to fall to the LA Lakers. But, the 2020/21 season was ultimately a disappointment, getting swept in the first round by the eventual champion, Milwaukee Bucks.

Bam Adebayo recently spoke on the various issues they dealt with, from COVID-19 problems to frankly, just being exhausted from a short offseason. Via The Athletic:

“We are more solution-based and trying to figure out how to get it done rather than, ‘Here is our excuses to why we can’t get it done,’” the Heat big man said. “But after the season, looking back at it, you was like, ‘Nah, we were broken.”

In January, the Heat were literally consumed by the virus. There were games where they could barely find enough players to take the court. But despite all of that, it came down to one thing: Miami was mentally and physically tired.

However, Pat Riley and the front office did a tremendous job this past summer to go out and add big pieces. The Heat signed Kyle Lowry to a three-year, $85 million deal to give them a trio of Adebayo, Jimmy Butler, and Lowry, while also bringing in the likes of Markieff Morris and P.J. Tucker to strengthen their squad on both ends of the floor.

So far, all these moves are paying off. The Heat is looking like a legitimate contender once again, sitting top-10 in offensive and defensive rating. They're also 10-5 on the season. Tyler Herro is taking huge steps in Year 3, while Adebayo, Lowry, and Butler are all thriving.

Last season may have been a write-off, but the Heat are coming back with vengeance in 2021/22.
