There are a lot of ways an NBA player can introduce himself to a fan base. One way would be to strut like LeBron James after he made The Decision. Another would be to write an essay like Kevin Durant. Meyers Leonard decided to try and endear himself to the Miami Heat fanbase through a tweet.
Hurricane Dolan is projected to arrive in the United States with stronger winds on Labor Day weekend. Leonard, who has never lived in Florida, is anxious about the incoming storm. He tweeted something that can be described as interesting at best.

Of course, some fans will find the comment distasteful. However, most of the fans who replied to the tweet enjoyed the humor and wished him and his family to be safe as the hurricane arrives.
Sure, it's not a great look to introduce yourself to the team through such a tweet. However, the former Illinois standout is there for basketball reasons. He will be providing quality minutes to a Miami team that has struggled to make the playoffs in the past couple of years.
He will be providing cover to Bam Adebayo. He has never been a big-game player, only averaging 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in his seven years as a Portland TrailBlazer. However, he is a quality addition to the team and can help stretch the floor from time to time.
However, the team would probably like it if Leonard makes less cheeky jokes from now on. A hurricane is a serious business, but it is something Miami locals are used to. And if he wants a long stint in Dade County, he better get used to the strong winds quickly.
