By no surprise, Miami Heat president Pat Riley has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for tampering after his comments about a potential reunion with Lakers star LeBron James last week.

Riley appeared briefly on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz and made an interesting remark about a LeBron James reunion in South Beach:

“I would leave the key under the doormat if he would call and let me know he’s coming,” Riley said. “I would do that, but I doubt very much if that key …. that key’s rusted now.”

“I wish him nothing but the best,” he said of LeBron James. “And if he ever wanted to come back, then I’ll put a new shiny key under that mat.”

I mean, it kind of is tampering. Daryl Morey also just got fined for a similar thing after low-key tweeting about Steph Curry joining his brother in Philly. After all, though, LeBron is certainly not going anywhere. It’s unlikely we ever see him play for another franchise other than the Lakers again, for that matter.

Pat Riley was just having some fun during the interview. Unfortunately, it’s turned into a loss of money for the veteran Heat executive. Sorry, Pat, LeBron James isn’t coming back to Miami. You’ll need to find some more talent elsewhere.
