NBA Hall of Famer Reggie Miller clearly doesn't like the ‘Zaza Pachulia rule'. During Game 3 of the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat series, Jimmy Butler landed into Khris Middleton's shooting space, which caused Butler to pick up a foul his third foul of the game.

According to the NBA Rulebook, defenders aren't allowed to move into the landing area of an airborne shooter, or else they'll be called for a foul.

Miller, who played 18 seasons in the NBA, is upset for Butler and explained on TNT's broadcast that he doesn't like the rule because it's a ‘natural progression for defenders'.

“I hate to say this but if this was in the 90's, if you couldn't contest my shot and had to go on the side of me, I would be averaging 45 point per game,” Miller said during the game. I just don't know how you can contest shots nowadays because it's just natural progression for a defender to leap forward.”

The NBA added the rule after Zaza Pachulia slid his foot under Kawhi Leonard's landing space in Game 1 of the 2017 Western Conference Finals. Leonard suffered a sprained ankle on that play which ultimately kept him out for the rest of the series.

After the referees call the foul, they'll be able to review it and change it to a flagrant or technical foul if they really believe the defender was dangerously too close on the jump shooters' landing space. The rule is meant to protect the shooters, which is very understandable. However, Reggie Miller believes otherwise.
