Despite his reported desire to reach a buyout agreement with the Charlotte Hornets, it appears that the team intends to hold on to 7-foot big man Frank Kaminsky — for the time being, at least.

According to ESPN's Marc J. Spears, the Hornets are not looking to buy out Kaminsky anytime soon despite Friday's playoff-eligibility deadline looming.

This is simply a case of both parties looking out for themselves, with the Hornets unwilling to allow Kaminsky to potentially join a rival team that they could end up facing in the playoffs.

As for Kaminsky, his only desire is to play, and will be willing to sign with a team that can offer him a more significant role compared to the one he currently holds with the Hornets. His persistence in wanting to showcase his talents becomes even more relevant considering the fact that the 25-year-old is currently on a contract year and will be looking to get paid in the summer.

Unfortunately for Kaminsky, he is definitely on the losing end of this tug-of-war, as he is left with no other option but to continue warming the Hornets bench up and until a resolution is somehow reached.

After averaging 11.3 points, 1.4 three-pointers, 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.5 blocks per game in 24.6 minutes of action for Charlotte in the previous two seasons, a log jam at the five-spot has resulted in a significantly reduced role for Kaminsky this year.

The former Wisconsin standout is currently just in his fourth season in the league, and he definitely still has a lot of basketball ahead of him. The silver lining here is that he has the benefit of youth, and should still be able to revive his career if given the opportunity.
