Iowa women's basketball star Caitlin Clark  climbed to fourth place on the NCAA Division I women's basketball all-time scoring list, achieving the milestone during a commanding 96-50 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. Her impressive 32-point contribution brought her career total to 3,306 points, surpassing WNBA icon Brittney Griner's record of 3,283 points, earned during Griner's tenure at Baylor University from 2009 to 2013.

Currently in her senior year, Clark leads the nation with an average of 30.9 points per game. Kelsey Plum's record of 3,527 points, the highest in women’s college basketball history, is within Clark's reach. She also remains a strong contender for the top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, though she retains an additional year of college eligibility owing to the pandemic's impact on NCAA seasons.

Clark's stellar performances have notably boosted the popularity of women's college basketball. This surge in interest is evident as Iowa sold out its season tickets for the 2023/24 season as early as August.

“It’s just hard for me to wrap my head around,” Clark said, as reported by Sam Joseph of CNN. “I’m just trying to stay in the moment and enjoy every single second of it. We understand how special and cool it is – what we’re doing for the game and for the state of Iowa and really for people around the country.

“It just shows how much the women’s game is starting to grow and how many people are starting to fall in love with it, especially our team.”

In the same game, Iowa's dominance was further highlighted by Kate Martin's 16 points and five rebounds. Iowa excelled in both offense and defense, outscoring Wisconsin in every quarter and limiting their field goal percentage to 31.5%. Clark's contribution extended beyond scoring, as she also amassed seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

“I was really happy with our defense in this game,” Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder said after the game. “We forced 28 turnovers in this game. Seventeen steals and we held them to 20 points in the second half. Caitlin becomes the fourth in all-time leader scorers, Syd (Sydney Affolter) just works hard time and time again and Kate Martin just continues to play like a pro.”

The Hawkeyes, ranked No. 2, are slated to face No. 18 Ohio State on Sunday.
