Having spent his entire career in the organization, impending free agent Jared Sullinger said that he would like to stay with the Boston Celtics.

Due to concerns with his back, the 6-foot-9 center fell in the 2012 NBA Draft before the Celtics took him with the 21st overall pick. In an interview with Chris Mannix on The Vertical podcast, Sullinger talked about feeling loyalty to Boston because of the chance it took on him after so many other teams had passed:

“Regardless of whatever happens, I have to thank the Celtics organization for what they have done. They gave me a chance when nobody else was going to give me a chance. And just for that I feel like I owe them. I would love to come back.”

Sullinger has been a productive player in his four-year career, averaging 11.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. However, he has been criticized for his playoff performance, particularly this season, when he averaged just 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds in the Celtics' first-round defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks.

The 24-year-old has dealt with several injuries throughout his career that could potentially scare off some teams in free agency. In his rookie year, he missed nearly half the season after having back surgery and was out for over a month last season with a stress fracture in his left foot. However, he bounced back strong this year, playing in all but one game for the Celtics.

Whether he winds up re-signing with Boston or not, Sullinger has proven he can be a valuable member of an NBA rotation and he should generate a good amount of interest this summer. In 2015-16, he made $3.4 million and figures to get a nice raise from his rookie contract.
