United States Representative Jasmine Crockett served as the commencement speaker for Texas Southern University and threw some shade at fellow representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, with whom she had a well-publicized back-and-forth last week. At the start of her commencement speech, she referenced her spat with Greene.

“ Now I did not travel from D. C. I know y'all ready to get your degrees and be out. I get it. But I done came from battling with Marjorie Taylor Greene and all the other crazies. Alright? Down here to Texas Southern. So y'all gonna act like y'all happy I'm here. ”
The incident took place when The Oversight Committee convened on Thursday to discuss the possibility of holding U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for not releasing audio recordings of President Joe Biden's discussions with special counsel Robert Hur. The meeting was initially set for the morning but got delayed until the late evening since some committee Republicans had gone to New York to attend Trump's hush money trial in court.
Greene inquired about the committee Democrats hiring Judge Juan Merchan's consultant daughter, who oversees Trump's trial, a matter Crockett deemed irrelevant.
Crockett asked, “Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland…Do you know what we’re here for?”
Greene then said to Crockett, “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
Her comment caused commotion in the hearing, with fellow representatives Jamie Raskin and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez scolding her and asking for the remark to be struck from the record. Greene was unapologetic.
“You will never get an apology out of me.”
Crockett then responded, saying, “If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach-blonde, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
The comment sparked its own commotion, adding to its virality on social media. Interestingly, Crockett had already been announced as the commencement speaker at Texas Southern University, making it the perfect opportunity to address the situation. This brought joy to the graduates and attendees of the ceremony.
