Dwyane Wade only just joined the Utah Jazz's ownership group earlier this year. Is his primary objective to keep Donovan Mitchell happy?

Wade and Mitchell have seemingly shared a close rapport especially since “Flash” joined Ryan Smith's ownership group in Utah. However, despite Wade's relatively nascent Jazz tenure and the fact Mitchell will be entering the first year of his max extension, there already appears to be some concern about Mitchell's future.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN said recently on the Hoop Collective podcast that Smith and the Jazz brought Wade into the fold in part to be a liaison, of sorts, for Mitchell. Windhorst also suggested Wade is worried about Mitchell's desire to be with the Jazz:

“I do think that Dwyane Wade, who (Ryan Smith) brought in to be a co-owner but also be an advisor, is seriously concerned about Donovan Mitchell’s desire to stay (in Utah) long-term,” Windhorst said, via HoopsHype.

Now, there are a variety of considerations to be made here. The first is obvious: Mitchell is only just beginning his max extension.

Utah committed to “Spida” and Rudy Gobert as their franchise players. Both those guys, in turn, made commitments to the Jazz. There seems to be at least some sense of allegiance and wanting to win in Salt Lake City.

That said, there are some reasons for concern. The Jazz have now blown leads in consecutive playoff series. Mitchell was frustrated by the team's decision to hold him out of Game 1 of Utah's first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies. There could be seeds of discontent that might lead to a trade demand.

It seems D-Wade will keep a keen eye on Mitchell going forward.
