The fallout between New York Jets safety Jamal Adams and head coach Adam Gase has led to the former requesting a trade ahead of the 2020 NFL season. Despite all that has transpired in New York this offseason, it appears Gase is not yet ready to part ways just yet.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, Gase acknowledged the recent turn of events and is hoping that he and Adams can get on the same page:

Gase on Jamal Adams says it is a “tough part of the business.” He says “we have to get to a place where we can get him back in the right spot and ready to go.”

Gase also stated his desire to keep a player of Adams' caliber on the team.

“Yes, I want Jamal on our team.”

Adam Gase praises Jamal Adams’ positional flexibility and the challenges that creates for opposing offenses. Calls his play speed “phenomenal”

Although Gase may seemingly be trying to extend an olive branch to Adams, it remains to be seen if the damage has already be done for both sides. After all, recent reports indicate that the coach had been a major factor in why the two-time All-Pro felt uncomfortable about his long-term future with the Jets.

New York still holds plenty of leverage since Adams has two years left remaining on his deal, unless he is adamant about forcing his way out of town this offseason. There is no question that the two-time Pro Bowler will have plenty of suitors if he is officially made available for trade.

Regardless, Gase's track record in dealing with star players certainly leaves much to be desired after he also failed to see eye-to-eye with running back Le’Veon Bell. Whether or not they opt to pull the trigger on a deal for Adams, the Jets are seemingly struggling to establish a strong locker room culture under the current regime.
