The New York Jets had a ton of money to spend this offseason, and aren't shying away from making significant moves to improve the team in NFL free agency. On Tuesday, they hit the market and snagged a pair of key defensive players to buff up the secondary. According to Rich Cimini, the Jets have landed former Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead.

That's a big get for the Jets, who had one of football's least productive secondaries in 2021. With Whitehead in the mix, the Jets should feel far more confident about defending against the pass next season. Whitehead will be with the Jets on a two-year, $14.5 million deal.

The NFL free agency moves didn't stop there, however.

Cimini also reported that the Jets reached a three-year agreement with ex-Seattle Seahawks CB DJ Reed. Reed will make $33 million throughout the course of his stay in New York, and figures to slot in opposite Bryce Hall as the team's starting cornerback.

With both Whitehead and Reed now in the mix, the Jets have already managed to vastly improve one of its most glaring weaknesses, without doling out an absurd amount of money, leaving themselves able to further improve in the offseason. After landing C.J. Uzomah on Monday, the Jets are showing their willingness to go out and spend in order to expedite their rebuild and get weapons on both sides of the ball.

In 2021, Whitehead featured in 14 games for the Bucs, recording 2 interceptions, 8 pass breakups, and 73 tackles. Reed also played in 14 games for Seattle last season, logging 2 interceptions, 10 pass defenses, and 78 tackles.
