The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Josh Doctson, a former first-round pick of the Washington Redskins.

Doctson was selected by the Redskins with the 22nd overall pick of the 2016 NFL draft. The 26-year-old played exceptional in his three seasons with the Redskins. Doctson recorded 81 receptions for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns with the Redskins. However, the Redskins released him during the final roster cuts last in September 2019.

Doctson then signed with the Minnesota Vikings after clearing waivers, however, he was placed on the injury reserve list for a majority of the season due to a nagging hamstring injury. He only appeared in one game with the Vikings and was eventually released in late November 2019.

The Jets are expected to lose wide receiver Robby Anderson in free agency this year. Signing Doctson could potentially be a major asset for them this upcoming season. Doctson will now get an opportunity to catch passes from Sam Darnold. He'll also team up with his former teammate Jamison Crowder on the Jets.

Doctson has proven that he can be a star receiver in college, however, he hasn't proven it in the NFL. In his senior year at TCU, he recorded 78 receptions for 1,326 yards and 14 touchdowns. That led him to be a first-round selection, but he hasn't lived up to his expectations.

Getting a fresh start with a new team could be exactly what Doctson needs. Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see if he'll be able to return to the same player as he was in college.
