The New York Jets were poised to make a splash at the Oct. 29 trade deadline after it was reported that they were nearing a deal to trade safety Jamal Adams to the Dallas Cowboys. It appears that their asking price was ultimately too high.

Rumors suggested that the Cowboys were willing to part ways with a first-round pick in a deal for Adams. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets wanted them to sweeten the pot a bit more:

The Cowboys engaged in talks with the Jets on S Jamal Adams and NYJ was only willing to part with Adams for a 1st rounder and two 2nd rounders, sources say

Although Adams has established himself as one of the most promising, young players in the NFL, this is certainly a heavy price tag to pay for a safety. Regardless, it is indicative of what the Jets felt he could go for on the market. It seems though their negotiations his value had suddenly increased.

Adams already earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors heading into his third year. He has registered 39 tackles, five pass breakups, and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown thus far in the 2019 NFL season.

It is safe to say that he would have provided a much-needed boost to the Cowboys' porous secondary, however, they can now try their luck with the bevy of quality picks they managed to hold on to.

Meanwhile, the Jets are now left with a disgruntled Adams after they had reportedly betrayed his trust by making him available ahead of the trade deadline.
