The New York Jets are now 1-7. On Sunday, they reached the low-point of their abysmal 2019 season, losing to the once-winless Miami Dolphins 26-18 — who, mind you, are adamantly tanking. Head coach Adam Gase, who was fired from Miami after the 2018 season, has gone from being on a warm seat with a backup quarterback to the hot seat with the starter to one that disintegrates skin on the first touch with the starter.

That starter, 2018 No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold, is giving his full support to Gase, despite the record.

“Coach Gase is one of the best coaches I've ever been around,” said Darnold after Sunday's loss, via SNY. “It's just a matter of going out there as players and executing, staying consistent. He's putting together great gameplans, we are staying motivated. Every single game, we go out there and give great effort, practice with great effort. Again, it's just about staying consistent and executing and putting really good drives together.”

Darnold sounds like he would like his coach to stick around. That shouldn't come as a surprise, as previously, he was very supportive of the hire. However, a 22-year-old quarterback, no matter how promising or how much the team spent to get him, doesn't always have the final say in the coaching department. It's possible that Jets brass has grown tired of Gase. It's also very possible that he doesn't finish the season in New York.

The Jets have a lot of thinking to do. As much as Darnold supports Gase, he may be out sooner rather than later.
