The New York Jets have missed the playoffs in the last seven straight seasons, but that hasn't deterred the level of optimism from head coach Todd Bowles concerning his team's outlook for the 2018 campaign.

According to Al Iannazzone of Newsday, Bowles has voiced that the Jets' aspirations for the upcoming campaign are to contend for not only the playoffs but also the Super Bowl.

“Our goal is to take one game at a time and get to the playoffs and win the Super Bowl, and that’s our expectation,” Bowles said. “That’s what it was last year. Going into Week 1 is no different for us.”

New York has struggled to find any consistent success for nearly the last decade, but there is a sudden shift in the franchise, especially with the addition of rookie quarterback Sam Darnold to lead the charge offensively. The team has been quite confident that he could prove to be the missing piece to the puzzle to help push the franchise forward toward a bright future. Darnold has quickly earned much praise from his teammates and coaching staff for his play on the field and his professionalism with the position.

The Jets are widely viewed as a team that isn't a serious contender for the Super Bowl or even make a serious run at the playoffs. Much of this has laid with the fact that the team has yet to prove that they can take that step forward under Bowles, which the 2018 campaign could present that chance that the Jets could make some notable strides forward.

There is a new buzz around the franchise with Darnold leading the charge that could be the start of the team building something special in New York for years to come. There is a clearly a renewed sense of optimism about what may lie ahead for the Jets.
