New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles is expected to be let go after this season but according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Post general manager Mike Maccagnan's job appears to be safe. A big reason his job appears to be safe is that the long-term plan for the Jets wasn't to make the playoffs in 2018, it is the plan to make it in 2019 and that goal could still be reached.

And the reason is simple: Maccagnan's job is to build for the long term, and his long-stated plan has been to compete for a playoff berth in 2019. All his moves — including moving up in the draft to land the Jets their franchise quarterback — have been with that goal in mind. And part of that plan was to capitalize on the $100 million-plus in salary cap space he created for them to use next offseason.

So his job isn't finished yet. And the Jets seem intent on allowing him to stay to see at least that part through.

Bowles has had plenty of chances to turn the franchise around, and he just hasn't been able to do it. The Jets started 10-5 in Bowles first season but since that point, he has gone 13-30 and that is why it appears the team is ready to move on.

Maccagnan hasn't had the greatest success drafting since taking over as GM, but he was able to go make a trade to get Sam Darnold and that is what his future relies on. Darnold needs to become the quarterback of the future for this team if he wants his job to remain.
