Sacramento Kings big man Harry Giles has admitted that he's always had the 3-point shot in his arsenal but just ‘didn't want to take them.'

Giles, who's entering his second year in the NBA, took just six attempts from deep in his rookie year and did not convert on a single one. According to him, he has a 3-point shot in his arsenal but wasn't allowed to use it. So far, his role with the Kings is a traditional center who's tasked to body it up in the paint.

“I can always shoot, I just didn’t really take them or you can say allowed to take them. Either way, I just played in my role too. Didn’t want to do too much, I found other ways to score without the three ball.”

Despite this, Giles managed to put up 7.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists in just 14.1 minutes of play in 58 games. It's a pretty impressive stat line given that the Kings are loaded with a hefty young core.

But Giles' admission certainly is an interesting one. Today's era of basketball requires big men like Giles to shoot. This will be key moving forward as he gains more knowledge about the game and earns the trust of his coach. A big man with a shot from deep is one of the most important pieces that a team should have in today's game.
