The highly anticipated 2018 NBA Draft is just a few days away, meaning trade chatter is just going to get even more intense. Some teams look to trade up or down in the draft, while others want to move assets and convert them into additional picks in the draft.

Among those receiving high interest is Sacramento, which holds the right to the no.2 pick. The Kings reportedly fielded a trade offer from the L.A. Clippers, who were keen on giving up two of their first-round picks (no.12 and no. 13) for their no. 2 pick. That transaction did not push through, however, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times.

It’s pretty enticing offer that the Clippers put on Sacramento’s table. This year’s draft class appears to have more promising players than in any of the groups in recent memory, so what the Clippers offered the Kings should have at least forced them to take a long and hard look at it before deciding not to cough up their own pick.

Had the Kings accepted the deal, they would have effectively taken themselves out of the race to select any of the likes of Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Luka Doncic, who are all expected to selected inside the top 10.

Nevertheless, there remains elite talent projected outside of that frame with prospects like Mikal Bridges, Kevin Knox, Collin Seton, and Robert Williams anticipated to be taken within the top 10-15 range. The Clippers could find another trade partner or just keep those picks themselves.
