The New York Knicks won their second and final game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks, getting double revenge against former franchise star Kristaps Porzingis. Asked about his relationship with the unicorn, head coach David Fizdale had nothing but good things to say about their brief time together in The Big Apple:

“Kristaps and I, our relationship was fantastic,’’ said Fizdale, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. “For whatever reasons, he had to make his decisions. I don’t think it had anything to do with me.”

Fizdale got on a plane to Latvia shortly after being hired by the Knicks in the summer of 2018, bringing his wife Natasha in hopes to smooth things over with Porzingis:

“He and I discussed a lot of stuff,’’ said Fizdale. “We had a lot of conversations. Obviously I went and spent a ton of time with him. He had to do with what he thought was right for him. And I respect that. This league, ultimately you never know when you’re going to cross paths again and when you’re going — you may end up coaching the guy again.”

It seems Kristaps Porzingis' beef was with management and the direction (or lack thereof) of the franchise. Porzingis did not play a single minute under Fizdale, as he was recovering from a torn ACL he had suffered in Feb. 2018. Even if the two didn't see eye-to-eye, there wasn't anything that could have translated onto the court, as he was still ways away from lacing them back up after an extensive recovery period.
