New York Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. will rejoin the team after suffering a death in the family.
Smith took to Twitter to send his thanks to his teammates, coaches and the rest of the organization while assuring the fans that he is ready to rejoin the team.
I wanna take this time to say thank you to my teamates for their support after the loss my family suffered last week, it meant a lot to me. Also, I truly appreciate the time off that Coach Fiz and the Knicks organization allowed me to take. It was spent around loved ones.

Just when that will be, however, remains slightly unclear. Smith clearly will not be available for Wednesday's game against the Detroit Pistons, and he apparently confirmed that he would miss his return to Dallas after spending the better part of his first two years with the Dallas Mavericks (via Dalton Trigg of Sports Illustrated):
This has not been a fun season for DSJ thus far. The Fayetteville, NC native was averaging under nine minutes per game during his first three appearances, and head coach David Fizdale has made it clear that the point guards on the roster have to earn their playing time.
Smith has showcased star potential in the past, and he worked tirelessly in the offseason to improve his jump shot alongside Knicks assistant coach Keith Smart.
Hopefully, the unfortunate start to the season is only a blip on the radar for Smith, who is one of the most athletic guards in basketball.
