New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose has a lot of history with head coach Tom Thibodeau, going back to their days together with the Chicago Bulls. Thibodeau also coached Rose on the Minnesota Timberwolves, so this is the third time they've linked up in the NBA.

Rose has been through a lot in his NBA career, including major injuries and off-the-court troubles surrounding a civil rape case in which he was ultimately found not liable by a jury. The veteran guard is now flourishing as a key reserve for the red-hot Knicks, and Thibodeau recently commented on Rose's continued perseverance.

Via The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski:

“Just to the point where he is today and all the things that he’s gone through,” Thibodeau said of his admiration for Rose. “Knowing the type of person that he is and the family that he’s from and just seeing how much he’s grown as a parent, how he is with his kids, on and off the floor, he’s in a really good place. And he’s the consummate pro, whatever you ask him to do, the team has always been first for him from the beginning to now.”

Rose is averaging 13.6 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 25.8 minutes per game for New York. The 32-year-old is shooting 46.0% from the field and 36.5% on 3-pointers, which is one of the best marks of his career.

Thibs has always believed in Rose, and the guard appreciates having the coach in his corner. Rose also has the backing of fellow veteran Taj Gibson, who also played with the guard in Chicago and Minnesota. While plenty of people mocked Thibodeau for getting this band back together, both Rose and Gibson are making beautiful music together by offering up important contributions on a Knicks team that has won nine games in a row.
