The New York Knicks will officially hire and introduce former NBA agent Leon Rose as their new president soon, but they have to wait for the Miami Heat to retire Dwyane Wade's jersey first.
Part of some of the loose ends Rose is tying up with CAA is planning Wade's three-day retirement event, via Marc Berman of The New York Post:
One of the holdups to officially joining the Knicks is his participation in the Heat’s three-day Dwyane Wade retirement extravaganza this weekend, which Rose helped plan.
It will be one of Rose’s last acts as an agent. Wade has been with Creative Artists Agency for many years. Rose’s colleague, Henry Thomas, was Wade’s primary agent until he died in 2018, after which Rose became more prominent on Wade’s team.
Knicks owner James Dolan began exploring the front-office model of hiring a player agent shortly after firing Steve Mills. The Golden State Warriors under Bob Myers and the Los Angeles Lakers under Rob Pelinka have had success with the former agent model.
The Knicks’ roster is pretty flawed right now, so Rose’s main priority moving forward is to hire the right coach to lead the franchise. He reportedly will have Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau on his coaching search list.
