Golden State Warriors wing Kelly Oubre Jr. is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and it appears he has already a target team to join: the New York Knicks.

On a recent talk with SNY TV, Oubre was asked about his opinion on how players see the Knicks now after becoming a playoff contender under head coach Tom Thibodeau. The Warriors swingman then talked about the legacy of the franchise and how players like him desire to play for teams with “great legacies.”

“The legacy of New York speaks for itself….This generation, the way everything is now, there aren’t challenges being taken….But at the end of the day, that’s what the game is about. It’s about playing for teams with great legacies,” Oubre explained.

Is Kelly Oubre Jr. already endearing himself to Knicks fans with that statement?

Well, it's certainly something Knicks fans want to hear, especially after years of failed attempts to contend. It also sets him up nicely if ever he decided to join New York, but his remarks did not really indicate if he wants to move to the Big Apple.

For what it's worth, it has been reported previously that the Knicks have interest in bringing in the Warriors player should they be able to swing a deal for Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal. Per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News:

The source says the Knicks are specifically interested in adding Oubre in the event they are successful acquiring a star guard via trade. The acquisition would create a more complete roster alongside Most Improved Player Julius Randle.

Will Oubre join the Knicks in free agency? It will depend on the money and role offered to him, but it will no longer be surprising if he chooses to be part of New York's “great” legacy.
