Jeff Van Gundy is a potential coaching candidate for the New York Knicks' head coaching job, but the current ESPN commentator believes Mike Miller deserves a shot to win the job.

The Knicks are expected to hire former NBA agent Leon Rose as their new president. Rose has a strong relationship with Van Gundy and former Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau.

Both Van Gundy and Thibodeau have been linked to the Knicks, but Van Gundy says undermining Miller isn't the right thing to do:

“Mike Miller, to me, deserves every opportunity to finish this season out and win the job and I think anybody plotting as a coach to try to undermine that opportunity is doing it wrong,” Van Gundy said on NBA SiriusXM radio, via The New York Post.

“In a coaching situation we should all root for each other to be successful because only the people that have manned the head coaching position understand how hard it is to win any single NBA game. And particularly those teams that are stuck in the middle, it is brutal to win games.”

Van Gundy, of course, coached the Knicks before. The last time New York went to the NBA Finals was under Van Gundy's watch.

Miller has done a decent job since taking over for David Fizdale, but this is the Knicks. The franchise needs a big-name coach who can attract free agents to New York and command the respect of a veteran locker room.
