Kevin Durant is on a warpath to bring the NBA championship to New York, and Knicks fans know all too well that it's for their cross-town rival Brooklyn Nets.

But apparently, the Knicks had an ally in Kevin Durant's dad, Wayne Pratt. When KD was all but decided on putting on the black uniform for Brooklyn alongside Kyrie Irving, his father made a last ditch effort to steer him the other direction. This comes from “Can't Knock the Hustle”, which is a book written by Matt Sullivan on the Nets. (Via Daily News)

“The Knicks is Mecca,” Pratt texted, according to “Can’t Knock the Hustle.” “If you want to do it, do it big. If you want to be a New Yorker, be a Knick.”

Durant, of course, stuck with his Brooklyn decision and told his father it wasn’t to appease his buddy Kyrie Irving, according to the book.

Fast forward a season later, and the Nets star was eventually joined by former teammate and fellow MVP James Harden. Had injuries not put a damper on their playoff run this postseason, they'd be the clear favorite to win it all. Win or lose, it's tough to say that Durant had any regrets foregoing the Knicks.

Durant was upset about the meddling, which was also a tampering violation by the Knicks, and “didn’t want his pops f–king with the plan,” the book stated.

Kevin Durant's dad is an unabashed New York Knicks fan, which explains the hard lean he had for his son to join them. But with the Nets still very much alive in their quest for a title this season while the Knicks bowed out early, Durant probably couldn't care less at this point.
