Michael Beasley played out of his mind Thursday night against the Boston Celtics in the Big Apple. He really did. Beasley outshone everyone in that game, as he racked up a career-high 32 points on the strength of a 13-of-20 shooting from the floor to propel the New York Knicks to a 102-93 takedown of the current top team in the Eastern Conference. He also had 12 rebounds. Even more impressive was that Beasley recorded all those numbers in just 25 minutes of action.

According to Basketball Reference, Michael Beasley became just the second player since 2001 to get at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in 25 minutes or fewer. DeMarcus Cousins has done it twice, one with the New Orleans Pelicans this season and one with his former team, the Sacramento Kings, back in 2014. Unlike Cousins, though, Beasley did it all coming off the bench.

Knicks big man Kristaps Porzingis appeared to have aggravated a knee injury and sat out the majority of the second half. That paved the way for Beasley to don his superhero cape and score 28 of his total output in the third and fourth quarter. So impressed were Knicks fans at the Madison Garden of Beasley that they shouted “MVP!” chants whenever Beasley has the ball.

The Knicks may want to be careful of Porzingis’ status, so Beasley can expect the team to give him more minutes moving forward. Over his last three games, Beasley has put up 28.3 points on 56.8 field goal percentage.

Michael Beasley is the newest hero in New York.
