This season began for the New York Knicks with Kristaps Porzingis installed as the team’s best player. Knicks nation may have to rethink that after…uhm…Michael Beasley went off during Thursday’s 102-93 win over the Boston Celtics.

With Porzingis limited by a knee injury and playing badly, as evidenced by his 0-of-11 shooting from the field, Beasley put the Knicks on his back and carried them towards an upset victory over the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 team.

Michael Beasley dropped 32 points, knocking down 13 of his 20 shots, while also adding 12 rebounds to his name. His effort was clearly appreciated by Knicks fans, whose chants of “MVP! MVP!” reverberated inside the confines of Madison Square Garden every time Beasley took to the charity stripe because apparently, Beasley has become the Knicks’ most important player as of the moment.

Michael Beasley has stepped up big time with Porzingis missing some games lately. Over the last three games, Beasley has averaged 28.3 points on 56.8 field goal percentage. The Knicks must be hoping that whatever it is that’s possessing Beasley never leaves until the end of the season.

Beasley signed with the Knicks on a cheap, one-year contract worth $2.1 million back in the summer, but if the former second-overall draft pick by the Miami Heat keeps on playing this way, he could be in line to get more money in his next deal next year. For now, though, Beasley is more focused on saving Gotham’s team.
