The bad blood between the New York Knicks and Kristaps Porzingis had been simmering for quite some time before coming to a boiling point when Porzingis asked for a trade this past week and was then dealt to the Dallas Mavericks, and New York does not forget it.

The relationship between the two sides began to sour during the summer of 2017, when Porzingis skipped the Knicks' exit interview as a means of showing his displeasure with then-Knicks executive Phil Jackson.

Much was made of Porzingis' decision to bypass the meeting, and two years later, it hasn't been forgotten:

The placement of the statement in that graphic is a bit odd, but it is true, nonetheless.

Porzingis was originally selected by the Knicks with the fourth overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, a selection that was met with boos and immediate contention from New York fans.

However, the city quickly fell in love with the Latvian once everyone saw what he was capable of during his rookie campaign, and it appeared that the Knicks had finally had their first legitimate franchise player since drafting Patrick Ewing in the mid 1980s.

But like just about everything else with the Knicks over the better part of the last two decades, things did not work out, as Porzingis developed a tenuous relationship with New York's front office and then ended up tearing his ACL midway through the 2017-18 campaign, an injury that has kept him sidelined until this day.

Now that Porzingis is a Maverick, both sides can hopefully move on.
