The New York Knicks have signed Marcus Morris for the 2019-20 NBA season after the veteran forward reconsidered his earlier commitment with the San Antonio Spurs.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Morris signed a one-year deal worth $15 million with the Knicks. It appears money was the main reason why the 29-year-old reneged on his verbal commitment with the Spurs, who offered him a two-year deal worth $20 million.

Morris spent the last two seasons with the Boston Celtics. In 75 games for the Celtics last season, the former Kansas standout averaged 13.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

The Knicks found an opportunity to offer a more lucrative deal to Morris after they started renegotiating an earlier commitment to Reggie Bullock. The Knicks initially agreed to a two-year, $21 million contract with Bullock but had to reconsider because of an undisclosed health issue.

With Morris out of the picture, the Spurs reportedly agreed to a deal with Trey Lyles. The Spurs needed to sign another forward after they unloaded Davis Bertans in a trade with the Washington Wizards, which was primarily made to make a room for Morris.

The 23-year-old Lyles played 64 games for the Denver Nuggets last season.

He averaged 8.5 points on 41.8 percent shooting from the field on top of 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
