The New York Knicks are a team that never seem to escape scrutiny. Especially amidst all of the losing brought on by the last six years. This futility has made it hard for the team to attract winning pieces.

Not to mention the “Mecca” of pro basketball has instead been marred by a fan base currently fed up with owner James Dolan as well as a series of front office mishaps.

From failing to sign a single marquee free agent–despite having two max salary slots–to their strange handling of the David Fizdale situation, the Knicks sure know how to get the rest of the league buzzing.

They are also on the precipice of structural change. Team president Scott Mills and general manager Scott Perry have mutual options for next season. And there is a strong chance the Knicks could move on from both.

According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Dolan would “love” to bring Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri on board. However, it'll be very hard for the Knicks to pry Ujiri away from the Raptors.

Dolan would love to pry Masai Ujiri out of Toronto, but there’s skepticism it can done with the team president under contract. Such a deal would be very complicated if the Raptors play hardball.

Ujiri's stock has risen considerably after helping to lead the Raptors to the NBA title last season. He made the tough decision to trade away beloved franchise star DeMar DeRozan in exchange for Kawhi Leonard. He also executed a pivotal trade to acquire Marc Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies last February.

The Raptors seem unlikely to let Ujiri walk. Especially because he also has a strong track record of draft picks that includes Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby.

New York might indeed move on from Mills and Perry. But they could be hard-pressed to find big-name replacements to steer the franchise in the right direction.
