Obi Toppin's second outing for the New York Knicks didn't exactly go as well as his debut from a couple of days ago. On Sunday, the highly-touted rookie finished with just four points on 1-of-9 shooting and just 1-of-6 from distance. Despite his poor shooting night, however, this did not stop the 22-year-old from referencing the great Stephen Curry in terms of his shooting acumen.

Toppin admitted that he's not at Curry's level when it comes to shooting the three ball, but the former Dayton standout also expressed how he believes he's a legitimate threat from distance:

“I feel comfortable shooting the 3 not super-far, not Steph Curry range, but I feel very comfortable shooting the 3,’’ Toppin said, via Marc Berman of the New York Post.

In his debut against the Detroit Pistons on Friday, Toppin logged 11 points on a more efficient 4-of-7 shooting. He did go 0-of-2 from behind the arc, though, and is now 1-of-8 (12.5 percent) in three-pointers over his first two games for the Knicks. Needless to say, that's definitely not Steph Curry-like.

Now that he officially has two (preseason) games under his belt, Toppin is just happy to have gone through the experience. He acknowledged that it continues to be a learning process for him and that he still continues to be a work in progress:

“Those two games I was getting a feel for what it’s like against NBA guys for the first time,’’ Toppin said. “I hadn’t played in a real NBA game. I’ve played against NBA guys, but being on the court, you see a lot of different things and feel a lot of different things. The pace of the game. You know you have to run because there’s someone else that can beat you to the other side of the court. Just need to know what things will help the team win offensively and defensively. I’m going to get better at it.’’

New York still has two more games to play against the Cleveland Cavaliers before the Knicks' preseason comes to an end. At this point, it's important for Toppin to get as many reps in as he can, in anticipation of what should be a demanding rookie year ahead.
