Fans of the New York Knicks got their first taste of rookie Obi Toppin in regular-season action on Wednesday night versus the Indiana Pacers. After taking part in his debut with the Knicks, Toppin spoke about shooting a decent amount of three-pointers against the Pacers.

“I’m just trying to find the flow of the game,’’ Toppin said, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “And those were the spots I found. I think I had a couple inside shots but I rushed it a lot. I’m still learning. This is my first real season game and I have a lot to learn. So I’m going to take my time and allow everybody to give me feedback on the team and just learn from it.”

When it was all said and done, Toppin finished with a whopping seven three-point attempts in New York's loss, which was the second-most on the team. His decision to shoot an abundance of threes comes as somewhat of a surprise seeing that he attempted only 2.6 three-pointers in his final collegiate season in 2019-2020.

Nevertheless, Toppin did make three of his seven attempts on Wednesday, scoring all nine of his points from outside the arc. The rookie forward is trying to discover what his role will be in his first season in the NBA, especially as a bench contributor.

In today's NBA, being able to space the floor with three-point shooters is a valuable asset. If Toppin is able to continue showing improvements in his outside game, the Knicks may have no choice but to increase his minutes as the season advances.
