Detroit Pistons big man Christian Wood remains a free agent target for the New York Knicks, according to Ian Begley of SNY.

Wood becomes an unrestricted free agent once the 2020 free agency period begins. Free agency is supposed to start a few days after the 2020 draft.

As we get closer to free agency, teams monitoring the power forward market believe that Christian Wood remains on the Knicks’ radar.

One team with interest in Wood expects the 25-year-old to be a top target for New York this offseason.

Wood appeared in 62 games for the Pistons in 2019-20. He averaged 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds while shooting 56.7 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and 74.4 percent from the free throw line.

The Knicks are desperate for frontcourt talent and Wood fits that bill. He's a high-flyer who has improved his offensive and defensive skills and could be a nice fit next to RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson.

New York is under new leadership, as Leon Rose is the new president of basketball operations and former Coach of the Year Tom Thibodeau is the new head coach. The Knicks haven't had a winning record or made the playoffs since the 2012-13 season.

While Wood isn't a star player who is going to turn the Knicks around by himself, he is a young talent who can develop nicely under Thibs' watch.

It's going to be interesting to see if New York overpays to steal Wood away from the Pistons, who need to re-sign Wood since the team traded Andre Drummond to the Cleveland Cavaliers at the 2020 trade deadline.
