New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett is only in his first NBA season, but he has already seen the dark side of the league.

Earlier this month, the Knicks fired head coach David Fizdale amidst a brutal start, and New York in general has been a mess this year with a 7-21 record.

But Barrett isn't fazed, saying he is just enjoying the moment:

“I’m 19 with no pressure on me. I go out and play basketball, the game that I love. I am in the NBA. Why would I let something like that mess me up?” Barrett said, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

While he may just be a rookie, Barrett was fully aware of the business side of the NBA from the jump:

“I knew it was a business coming in,” said Barrett. “I’m happy to have really strong vets. Taj [Gibson] keeps telling me, ‘Stay straight, young fella. Don’t veer off. Stay with it.'”

The Knicks may be floundering (what else is new?), but Barrett has been solid as an individual, as he is averaging 14.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals over 32.1 minutes per game while shooting 39.7 percent from the floor, 30.4 percent from 3-point range and 55.1 percent from the free-throw line.

His efficiency certainly leaves something to be desired, but there is no doubting the fact that Barrett has had some very strong moments thus far and appears to have a bright future.

Barrett, who played his collegiate basketball at Duke, was taken third overall by the Knicks back in June.
