Known for his knack for scoring the ball, New York Knicks point guard Trey Burke says he can't change who he is when his number is called. Burke voiced out that statement after putting up a season-high 24 points in a losing effort against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Marc Berman of the New York Post wrote a column on Burke's best game of the season, including the 26-year-old's bold comments after the loss.

“When my number’s called, I can’t be something I’m not,’’ Burke said. “I have to be the guard that I am. Coach [David Fizdale] told me to attack. That’s what I’m going to do. I can’t try to please being someone I’m not. That’s what I did earlier in the season. For this team to win, I have to be the Trey Burke everyone knows I can be.”

Burke also pointed out that his inefficiency during the team's recent games is mainly because he was focusing too much on his perimeter game.

“Earlier in the season, I was settling too much for jump shots. Having time to reflect how I was effective last season and different spurts throughout my career, I was always in attack mode and having fun and getting in the paint.”

Burke was a bright spot in the Knicks' fourth consecutive loss. But the sixth-year man out of Michigan has seen his shooting percentages dip this season. From a 50 percent clip from the field last year, Burke is just shooting 44 percent overall.

Trey Burke and the Knicks will look to improve their paltry record as they visit the Orlando Magic on Sunday.
