The New York Knicks have a collection of young and promising talent that can be valuable in the coming years, but the team understands they still need to land that franchise-saving superstar that would bring them back to relevance.

Per Marc Berman of The New York Post, the disenchanted franchise is keenly observing All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns and his situation with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

According to the source, another player the Knicks are expected to monitor is local product, Karl-Anthony Towns, the Timbwolves’ 24-year-old superstar who also signed a max extension this summer.

In an era when stars have shunned the Knicks (Irving, Kevin Durant, Kemba Walker, Leonard), it’s only logical Towns would intrigue the front office.

A Knicks fan growing up in his hometown of Metuchen, New Jersey, Towns is currently facing yet another tough year in his fifth season in Minny. After a hot start to the 2019-20 NBA campaign, the Timberwolves (10-19) have dropped to 13th place in the Western Conference and have lost 11 consecutive games.

The 24-year-old slotman has missed Minnesota's last four games due to a knee sprain and is once again averaging stellar numbers of 26.5 points, 11.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.3 blocks while shooting 51.4 percent from the field and 11.7 from three.

The Kentucky product has already made the All-Star team twice in his career, but he has only made the playoffs once in 2018 where they were eliminated by the Houston Rockets in five games in the first round.

The Knicks, meanwhile, seemed like they had a franchise star in Kristaps Porzingis before opting to trade him away last season upon his request.

Acquiring Towns will be easier said than done for the Knicks, considering he just signed a massive $190 million super-max contract extension with the Timberwolves last year. But if we learned anything from this offseason's trade bonanza, disgruntled superstars — even those with newly signed contracts (i.e. Paul George) — often get their way in these types of situations.
