The New York Knicks are currently making a playoff push in the Eastern Conference. Despite that, it seems as though the Knicks have no interest in signing Detroit Pistons buyout player Blake Griffin. New York is ranked 5th in the East right now and believes they're a player away from becoming a potential contender. However, Tom Thibodeau and the front office don't see Griffin as being the player they need to succeed.

We're clearly in a new era of New York Knicks basketball, as Blake Griffin is the type of big-name guy this organization would have gone after in the past. However, with a plethora of forwards on the roster, it seems the team is more interested in guard Victor Oladipo, per Marc Berman. Additionally, fellow power forward Julius Randle has been lights out, becoming the centerpiece for the Knicks this year.

With their depth at the position, signing Griffin onto the team wouldn't make much sense either. He'd be taking playing time away from oyoung players on the roster, potentially slowing down their development. The front office is more likely to pursue different positions before the trade deadline, per the New York Post.

And there’s no desire to put team president Leon Rose’s lottery pick, Obi Toppin, on the pine and stunt his growth. In addition, Kevin Knox is waiting in the wings. That does not mean, however, that Rose won’t explore upgrading the roster’s talent level by the March 25 trade deadline to aid a playoff push.

With plenty of help at power forward, the Knicks have removed themselves from the Blake Griffin race. They seem to have much more interest in Oladipo, as he'd instantly become the best guard on their roster.

Look for New York to make a trade before the deadline, as this team is close to finally becoming a legitimate contender once again. Catch their first game after the All-Star break, as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks Thursday, March 11th.
