The recent revelation that Kawhi Leonard is looking for a way to get out of the San Antonio Spurs has brought forward an onslaught of teams preparing a package to offer for the injured star.

While many can offer a lot more than what the New York Knicks can, according to ESPN's Ian Begley, those close to him have “expressed a desire” for him to play in New York.

Leonard's personal preference has been said to be his native Los Angeles, as the Lakers boast the necessary cap space to sign two max-level free agents this offseason. Yet he will be competing with another two big-time free agents in LeBron James and fellow L.A. native Paul George — both bound to make decisions on their future this very offseason.

The Knicks could represent a fresh start and a definite opportunity to grow his brand in a massive market, as well as a way out of the clasp of The Spurs Way and coach Gregg Popovich.

New York is far from a finished product and still have forward Kristaps Porzingis on the shelf, but landing Leonard could certainly signify that the team is ready to put the foot on the accelerator and start their their rebuild through new coach David Fizdale with a couple of high-potential cogs at hand.
