The Los Angeles Lakers have renewed hopes for another title run next season with the potential addition of Dan Hurley as the team's head coach. Hurley may team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in hopes of leading the Lakers back to the NBA's mountaintop.

James and Davis are already championship holders from their time in the NBA's ‘Bubble,' during which they secured the franchise's record-tying 17th championship. Can James and Davis lead the Lakers to title number 18 with Dan Hurley? Hoops analyst Kendrick Perkins seems to think it's a distinct possibility.

The man known as ‘Big Perk' offered his take at a time when LeBron James reacted to a historic NBA Finals moment. A Hurley contract offer is reportedly on the table with one major caveat at the 11th hour.

Now, the question is whether or not the Lakers are inching closer to an NBA title in this particular cycle or painting themselves into a corner with some might say underachieving players.

Perkins isn't ready to give up on the stellar teammates. He said that LeBron and Davis' games are a great fit for each other and fans should not discount their title just because it was acquired in the ‘Bubble' of Central Florida during the 2020-2021 season.

“There's no other player, in my opinion, that complements (LeBron James) like Anthony Davis…And yes, it was a bubble run. Look at the numbers they were putting up. It was a match made in heaven,” Perkins said.

Lakers' future outlook

The Lakers have a top 20 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and are on course to select a solid contributor this June.

With so much happening at such a high rate of speed, GM Rob Pelinka will likely want to secure his coach sometime in the next few days. The Lakers must get the ball rolling on the next phase of their plans and there is little time to spare.
