The latest controversy surrounding the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant involved an LA County deputy that reportedly took and shared photos of the crash scene that took the life of the Los Angeles Lakers legend, his daughter Gianna, and seven others. The plot thickens as it is discovered that more officers are guilty of the crime.

Per the Associated Press (via Sports Illustrated), Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva revealed that eight deputies allegedly took and/or shared graphic photos of the crash scene.

Villanueva, however, assured fans that the incriminating photos of the deceased Lakers great and the other passengers have been deleted.

“That was my No. 1 priority, was to make sure those photos no longer exist,” Villanueva told NBC News for a story Monday. “We identified the deputies involved, they came to the station on their own and had admitted they had taken them and they had deleted them. And we're content that those involved did that.”

“We've communicated in no uncertain terms that the behavior is inexcusable. I mean, people are grieving for the loss of their loved ones. To have that on top of what they've already gone through is unconscionable.”

Vanessa Bryant was also said to be “devastated” by the incident. Through her lawyers, she expressed her desire for the culprits to face the “harshest discipline possible.”

The Lakers and the city of Los Angeles held a Kobe Bryant memorial on February 24th for the NBA icon, his daughter, and the victims of the tragic accident. While it has been over a month since the accident happened, the wounds are still fresh and it will certainly take a lot of time to move on.

Kobe is recognized as one of the most influential athletes in the world, and his legacy far transcends what he did on the basketball court.
