Alex Caruso firmly believes the Los Angeles Lakers have what it takes to be a “really good” defensive team.

In an interview with Spectrum SportsNet, Caruso responds to Anthony Davis' recent comments about becoming Defensive Player of the Year and making the Lakers a great defensive team. The 25-year-old guard said AD is “more than capable” of winning DPOY, and he thinks they have the “right supporting cast” around him to make the Purple and Gold thrive on the defensive end.

“I think this team can be really good defensively,” Caruso said. “I saw AD make some comments about wanting to be Defensive Player of the Year, and he's more than capable of that. So I think we have the right guards and the right supporting cast around him to make this a really good defensive team.”

The Lakers have two of the best players in the NBA in Davis and LeBron James, so they really don't have any problem where to get points. With that said, defense is what could make or break them in the upcoming 2019-20 NBA season.

Davis said previously that he wants to make himself, LeBron and the rest of his Lakers teammates accountable defensively, and it's clear Caruso understands what AD wants to achieve.

LeBron, AD and Los Angeles are in for a tough season in the rugged Western Conference. The team has championship aspirations, and they know very well they have to be at their best on both ends of the floor to be the last team standing next June.
