Rumors are running rammpant across the NBA with the offseason in full swing. There is already speculation that LeBron James could leave the Los Angeles Lakers soon, but now the shift is focusing on Luka Doncic. One rival executive stirred the pot on Wednesday when claiming the Denver Nuggets are a team to keep an eye on in regards to Doncic.

From the sounds of it, with the Lakers more inclined to be building for competition in 2026 and beyond, a rival executive believes that the 26-year-old guard could be intrigued by the Nuggets in the coming years, according to insider Anthony Irwin.

“The Lakers have to be careful,” a West executive told ClutchPoints. “Luka just got his butt kicked by a team he handled easily last year, and now they're telling him to wait another year before he can really compete. If Denver wins it all or comes close while Rob [Pelinka] makes it clear he doesn't believe in Luka and LeBron as a combo, they could be a real threat for him this next season or two.”

Championships talk, and the Nuggets are in line to be one of the most competitive teams next season. Especially after the acquisitions, the front office made to improve the depth of the roster. Meanwhile, rumors continue to suggest the Lakers are focusing more on building right now and trying to compete in the 2026-27 season instead.

All things considered, these are simply rumors for now. Luka Doncic has not voiced any frustrations about the Lakers. If anything, the rival NBA executive is being more observational than not.

Although the belief is that Los Angeles is in a mini-rebuild, the roster still stacks up well with the rest of the league. Doncic and James form a powerful duo, and the front office managed to sign Deandre Ayton to step in as the starting center. Additionally, Austin Reaves will likely continue playing at a high level and serve as a strong third option for the Lakers' offense.
